Expert Council invites inspiring international quest speakers

One of the areas “Center Dardedze” works since 2001 is advocacy  - to stand up for the best interests of children in policy and decision making in Latvia, Baltic Sea Region and Europe.

Since 2019 at least twice a year “Center Dardedze” organizes Expert Council meetings with other organizations working in the field in child protection with an aim to share actions, initiatives and challenges in child safeguarding (especially child sexual abuse and exploitation) in Latvia.

Next meeting is planned on 22nd of April, 2020, this time with the support of the Embassy of Sweden in the project “Never Violence”. Despite the global crisis that has mobilized us to focus on the current problems and raised the feeling of uncertainty, we will gather online to think about long-term targets. We want to encourage Latvia to become a Pathfinding country.

  • Sabine Rakotomalala from Global Partnership to End Violence will tell about the global movement of Pathfinding countries.
  • Yongjie Yon and Jonathon Passmore from World Healh Organization’s Regional office for Europe will speak about their work on violence prevention in Europe.
  • Maria Schillaci and Laura Korhonen from “Barnafrid”, as well as Elisabeth Dahlin from Sweden’s Ombudsman will tell about Sweden’s experience as it is the first Pathfinding country in the world.

Expert Council participants: representatives from Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Health, State Police, State Probation Service, Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre, Ombudsman, The State Inspectorate For Protection Of Children's Rights, University of Latvia, Latvian Safer Internet Center, Municipal Union and Center Dardedze.
